The Father and Son—Two Peas in a Pod

The Father and Son—Two Peas in a Pod

Fathers and sons often become two peas in a pod. The influence of a father goes beyond the DNA. Fathers often become the image that their sons try to mirror. Therefore, it is important for fathers to lead a life they would want to see their sons walk into one day. It is the father’s role to provide and at the same time train the son to become a provider, to protect, and at the same time teach the son when to fight and when to let things go. To be firm in his decision and, at the same time, teach the son to respect differences. The father is essential in the overall growth and development of a boy toward becoming a man.

The relationship between a son and his father encourages giving. As the son learns from the father, the father also learns from the son.

The father, while teaching these things, becomes more responsible especially in his choices of how to speak and act, knowing he will be imitated by his son. He learns to provide and think ahead. To anticipate the future and to make sure the family does not lack anything. The father, while protecting his family, also learns to lower his pride, pick his fights, and choose his family over his ego. The father learns to love unconditionally and learns to be a better man. He learns to put someone else, other than himself, first in hopes of seeing his son do the same in the future.

The father learns to become the best version of himself, to give his son an image he will be proud to imitate. After all, everything that a son does is usually learned from his father—even Jesus himself.

Therefore, Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.  -John 5:19
